Winners Announced at DJ Awards 2014

DJ Awards 2014

One of electronic dance music’s longest-standing award ceremonies took place yesterday at one of Ibiza’s leading nightclubs, Pacha. Presented by Des Paul and Lucy Horobin, DJ Awards 2014 honored and celebrated some of the current most influential and top DJs in the EDM scene. Since 1998, Ibiza has been home to DJ Awards, a non-profit organization specifically designed to truly commemorate DJ/producers who have positively impacted EDM, shedding light to others who may not be as popular as some of the bigger names in the industry.

Straying from similar award ceremonies that have evolved into competitions between DJ/producers, DJ Awards has remained true to their initial motive of honoring those who truly deserve. However, some of the winners of certain awards (e.g.: Diplo for Best Electronica) have us scratching our head. Armin van Buuren was awarded Best Trance DJ for the 7th year in a row. Carl Cox took home two awards, both Best Techno and International DJ. Hardwell, also known as DJ Mag’s 2013 Top DJ, was awarded Best Electro House DJ. Winners were awarded with a piece of green kryptonite; the trophy symbolizes the mystery of nightlife and its culture. Check out the winners of DJ Awards 2014 below.

Best Of:

Electro House: Hardwell
Techno: Carl Cox
Trance: Armin van Buuren
Tech House: Luciano
Deep House: Jamie Jones
Newcomer: Patrick Topping

International DJ: Carl Cox

Special Awards:

Ibiza Live Performance: Matador
Ibiza Night: Flower Power
International Festival: Creamfields UK

Record Label of the Year: Innversions
Track of the Season: Forget by Patrick Topping

It is both refreshing and compelling for an award ceremony to award DJ/producers outside the Beatport Top 100. With other DJ awards such as DJ Mag’s Top 100, many get lost in the social media aspect of the scene and forget that an art form such as music cannot be ranked, graded, or subjected to judgment on any numerical scale. DJ Awards marks the end of Ibiza’s nightclub season, as well as a time of appreciating and respecting the EDM scene for what it really stands for.

Markus Schulz Voted America’s Best DJ for 2014

Markus Schulz

The fans’ votes have all been counted and it’s official: DJ Times magazine and Pioneer DJ are proud to announce that Markus Schulz has been voted America’s Best DJ for 2014. This is the second time Markus has taken home the award—he also won in 2012 — and he’ll be taking over the honor from 2013 winner, Kaskade.

While most of the fan votes were cast online at the America’s Best DJ website, the America’s Best DJ Summer Tour Presented by Pioneer DJ & DJ Times supported the contest by allowing fans to vote in-person at 20+ club and festival events, which included Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival, Detroit’s Movement Festival and Chicago’s Spring Awakening Festival.

The Miami-based DJ/producer – who is touring the world in support of his newest artist album Scream 2 – will be honored October 12 in Las Vegas at the ABDJ Award Ceremony/Closing Party. For his achievement, Markus will be presented with a special trophy – a personalized, gold-plated Pioneer DJM-900nexus mixer at Marquee Nightclub.

“Receiving this news is such an incredible honor. I have never been in this industry for the sole purpose of winning awards, and my biggest accomplishment in life is having the ability to connect and entertain those who believe in me and what I do on a daily basis. I’d like to thank everyone at DJ Times and Pioneer DJ for their continued support, all of the promoters who facilitate my passion in the clubs and festivals throughout North America, those who sacrifice in helping me achieve my dreams, and most of all, the fans, because without you, none of this is possible. Forever grateful for your love and support, and I look forward on our continued journey into the future.”Markus Schulz

“Once again, Pioneer DJ is proud to honor Markus Schulz, who was voted America’s Best DJ for 2014. As a two-time winner, Markus has achieved something special. Markus represents the best of the U.S. DJ culture, and we congratulate him for his well-deserved win.”David “Davey Dave” Arevalo, Director – Marketing / Artist Relations Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc.

“With his second title in three years, Markus has further solidified his place in the realm of U.S.-based DJs. As a longtime global jock, Markus has taken his music around the world and, now with the skyrocketing popularity of dance music in America, his home country has offered even more support than ever. He’s a DJ with old-school skills in the booth and the studio, but, crucially, he’s adept enough to know how to move the new-school audiences that are filling America’s nightclubs and festivals. Congratulations, Markus!”Jim Tremayne, Editor, DJ Times

Additionally, we’re pleased to announce that Zachariah Jacobsen of Denver, Colorado is the Grand Prize Winner of the ABDJ fan voting contest. Zachariah and one friend will receive flight to and from Las Vegas, two nights accommodations at Cosmopolitan, plus VIP treatment at the America’s Best DJ Closing Party/Award Ceremony on October 12.

Cascada Fans Should Go Crazy for ‘Madness’

Cascada Madness

For everyone who evacuated the dance floor, it’s about time to get back out there, because Cascada is getting ready to release “Madness” to her masses of fans. This will be the second single from her forthcoming fifth studio album, and from the looks of it, “Madness” is destined to be a bona fide floor filler.

The German Eurodance diva’s previous single, “Blink” was released earlier this year. “Madness” will be her much anticipated follow up, set for release on September 26th.

The song features the familiar Cascada Euro style, and also taps into the talents of Chicago-based rapper Tris.

You can check out the preview of the CJ Stone official remix below.

Eric Prydz Coming to LiFE Las Vegas and Bringing Along Techno Alter Ego Cirez D

Eric Prydz has been on a roll lately. When the Dutch progressive house producer/DJ’s Pryda EP was released on Beatport, it jumped to the top of the charts in merely one day. Then it was announced that for HARD Day Of The Dead, Prydz and Deadmau5 will have their own “Mau5-ville” arena together. The latest triumph though, was an offer of a residency at the highly anticipated LiFE nightclub at the new SLS on the Las Vegas Strip. This is actually his third Vegas residency for the year, starting with Wynn, then moving on to Drai’s Beach Club and Nightclub. Now he’ll have his exclusive residence at LiFE, which kicks off on Saturday, September 13th.

Immediately following his debut there as Eric Prydz, LiFE will have him host their inaugural non-commercial EDM music night “Underground Sundays” under his techno alias Cirez D the next day, on September 14th.

In 2002, Prydz launched his label Mouseville, producing techno music under the alias Cirez D. So now Las Vegas will have two big names in the form of one person, doubling the chance to start swaying Sin City from the status quo. You’ve got to like those odds.

Here are some techno jams from Cirez D for you to check out.

Rap Mogul Suge Knight Hurt in Nightclub Shooting

Suge Knight

Chaos at a West Hollywood club over the weekend, when bullets went flying at a party thrown by singer Chris Brown at 1OAK on Sunset Boulevard. And Suge Knight, the founder of hip hop label Death Row Records among those wounded.

This happened at 1:30 Sunday morning, before last night’s MTV Video Music Awards. There were three victims. One remains in critical condition. The shooter reportedly hit Knight six times. One bullet in the arm, five in the chest, three apparently passing through. Deputies descended on the club, but the shooter escaped.

Detectives are looking through video to see if they can ID the shooter. If he has a criminal record, he may have a mugshot.

Ariana Grande and Zedd ‘Break Free’ with New Release

Ariana Grande has been enjoying success with her smash hit “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea. Now her label, Republic Records, has a message for all the “Arianators” out there, regarding the much anticipated follow-up, “Your space galaxy Ariana dreams are about to come true. Are you ready for Break Free? Watch and enjoy this pop space adventure (and your new fave Ari jam!) that just premiered on VEVO.”
